Hanging out in the park

We got a really slow start this morning, and it’s all that Joey’s fault.  Uncharacteristically, he woke up in the middle of the night and was trying to tell me what he needed, but I just wasn't understanding him.  Finally, he showed me what he needed.  He needed to get up out of bed, turn on and off, several times, every light switch in the house (I think he's as excited about our newly installed lights as I am) and drink a little glass of juice.

But we did get to go for that walk, as planned, and my, it was nice.  Because of all the jet lag, we've been skipping Joey's nap, but he's starting to get tired after lunch once again, which is when we finally were able to get out and about.  He didn't want to walk, so I loaded him up in my shopping cart.  It's awfully cold, so Joey was really happy in his cocoon...he generally stayed curled up in the bottom, but then every once in a while he'd pop up and cry "surprise!"   I wish I'd understood the comments he prompted from the obediently surprised, laughing passersby.  I'll just assume they were complimenting me on my incomparable children.

That's how we roll.
We walked from our home, up the street, to Alex's school, and then over to the community center and library.  Those were closed, but the large playground adjacent was ungated, so the kids finally got to try the slide they'd been eyeing from afar: two stories high and pronounced "awesome."

Joey enjoyed the trucks that some generous kids had left in the sand pit, and, even more, the little petting zoo plop in the middle of the playground.  They had pigs, donkeys, goats, and a hutch of bunnies. The pig was very talkative: Joey laughed and laughed and perfected his pig impression.  Something you won't see in the states: the pile of manure from the animals was also plop in the middle of the playground.

Ella and Alex busied themselves playing princess and dragon and burned off plenty of excess energy.
